Assets and concept work for the main/playable character, Machi, in my student capstone game Mocha Magic.
Mocha Magic is a cafe-sim bartending novel in which you seek to create the "perfect drink" and in doing so make connections to the customers that come into your shop. It can be played here: https://catpawgames.itch.io/mocha-magic
Visual Novel Sprites:
Machi's sprites were special, as instead of a full body, they only had a bust shot.
As the player could walk around the cafe in isometric view, I had to create a spritesheet so that the character could have a walking animation. I also implemented this animation into the game (Unity).
The first concept was designed in text by one of our narrative members, Petr Lizunov. Using his verbal description, I sketched out the design of the character that I believed was being portrayed.
Later, we changed game concepts, and our game went from a witch making potions to a barista making drinks. We used the original design as a base and modified it slightly to fit the new theme better.
After each pass was a feedback round in which the whole team gave their thoughts on the various designs; I narrowed things down to 3 or 4 favorites, then iterated new further variations of those few designs.
